INFORMATION FOR

Future Group Members

▊ Prospective Postdoctoral Fellows

We currently do not have any funded postdoc positions. We will update this section when an opening is available.

▊ Prospective Graduate Students

We are on the lookout for excellent graduate students in both experimental and computational/theoretical branches of our research. Motivated candidates with experience or strengths in one (or more) of the following areas are encouraged to apply.

     ▎ Experimental

  • Polymer materials and properties
  • Polymer processing and rheology
  • Materials characterization

     ▎ Computational/Theoretical

  • Molecular simulation; materials modeling
  • Numerical methods; computational fluid dynamics (CFD); scientific computing
  • Machine learning; data-driven modeling
  • Mathematical modeling; process system engineering; optimization

Depending on the candidate’s background and interest, they may apply for programs in either

     Chemical Engineering

or

     Computational Science & Engineering

How to apply

Interested candidates are encouraged to send a brief self-introduction (including background, research interests, career plans, etc.) along with

        ■ your up-to-date CV, including

    • all degrees, with details on academic programs, institutions, and GPAs
    • standardized English test scores, and
    • a publication list with complete bibliographic information, if available

        ■ all post-secondary transcript(s)

to Dr. Li Xi (xili at mcmaster.ca). All files should be in the PDF format. No need to attach any other documents. Use “Your Name – PhD (or master’s) candidate” as the Email subject line.

Note: due to the volume of applications that I receive, I cannot reply to each individual inquiry. Please stay assured that every application sent to my inbox is fully reviewed. I will be in touch if and when there is a suitable position for you.

▊ Prospective Undergraduate Researchers

We are always keen to speak with next-generation researchers interested in our work. Feel free to reach out to Dr. Li Xi (xili at mcmaster.ca) to explore the possibility of starting your research journey in our group.

▎ Current Undergraduate Students at McMaster

Various funding opportunities are available to support your research experience, such as

Interested candidates are encouraged to discuss with Dr. Li Xi about applications to those programs.

▎ Undergraduate Students from International Institutions

We only accept international undergraduate visitors though the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship program (https://www.mitacs.ca/en/programs/globalink/globalink-research-internship). Please apply to Mitacs directly and search for projects under Dr. Li Xi’s name.

▊ Prospective Visiting Students and Scholars

Externally-funded visiting students and scholars with interest matching one of our research theme areas  are encouraged to discuss with Dr. Li Xi (xili at mcmaster.ca) about collaboration opportunities.

▊ About Us

We are an interdisciplinary research team using combined experimental, theoretical, and computational approaches to tackle key challenges in polymer materials, smart manufacturing, fluid flows, and sustainability. Details of our recent research focuses are found on our research page.

We are part of the Department of Chemical Engineering at McMaster University, one of the leading chemical engineering departments in Canada. McMaster University is consistently ranked among the top 100 in the world and repeatedly rated as the most research-intensive university in Canada. It is conveniently located in the city of Hamilton, which is within one-hour drive from the metropolitan center of Toronto and the Niagara Falls at the U.S.-Canada border.
